This is my little slice of mountain heaven up near The Lodge at Woodloch. There are a series of creeks and streams pouring down the mountains that are hard to get to. Some amount of climbing and sliding are required to find them. I shot this with my Sony NEX-7 while clinging to the stream bank.
Photo of the Day: Boat on the Lake
Jumped on Trey's google hangout the other night and realized I didn't have many photos to share on the show. So I grabbed my Sony NEX-7 with a 14-24mm lens and headed out to the lake to snap a few quick sunset photos. There's not too much green yet from the harsh Winter so I felt like this deserved a black and white treatment.
Photos of the Day: Fooling Around
We had a beautiful Spring day around here with the windows open, a Phillies game on the TV, and a few steaks on the grill. I decided to snap a few photos of the kids playing around. I used my Sony NEX-7 with a 50mm lens to grab these. I tried to use as much natural window light as possible. It always looks better.
Photo of the Day: Maplewood after the rain
I love this building in my hometown of Maplewood, NJ. I'd been meaning to get out there and photograph some of the sights in this town but something was always getting in my way. Heck I'd managed to get to New Zealand but couldn't seem to photograph the town where I live.
I got out my Nikor 14-24mm lens for this bad boy. I also played with this image quite a bit in Lightroom before dropping it into Silver Effex Pro for some dramatic black and white. The blue sky was gorgeous but I just felt like this needed some black and white action. What do you think?

Photo of the Day: Fire Dancer of Queenstown
I'm not going to lie, I was terrified of this shoot. Trey Ratcliff announced this portion of the evening by saying, "this is going to be one of the hardest things you'll ever shoot as a photographer." He was right. We were thrust into the abyss of fire dancers!
I wasn't sure ow to shoot this. I mean I thought I should dump it over to Manual mode and try getting the right shutter speed, ISO, etc. But that takes time. I wound up firing off some longer exposures in Aperture Priority Mode which gave me some amazing light trails. I should have taken one nice HDR shot of the house and hill side without the girl in the frame but there wasn't enough time. With that one HDR I could have used it as a canvas to mask in the dancer later.
It's one of those live and learn shots because knowing what I know now I would have approached it a whole different way. wish I had managed to grab some fast shutter, high ISO shots of her face but alas I did not.
