Photo Fix of the Day

Here's a photo I took at a local farm this past week. The skies were dramatic all day and at one point I spun around to see these intense rays of sunlight pouring through the clouds. When I first processed the photo the juvenile apple trees in the foreground were very dark so I brought up their exposure quite a bit. I added some clarity to the clouds but other than that I didn't do much.

How would you improve this photo? I thought maybe some cropping would have been in order but I opted not to. What do you think?

I shot this with a Sony NEX-7 using the kit lens at 21mm, f/8, ISO 100.

Photo of the Day

It was a surprisingly hot first day of Fall when we decided to go apple picking.  I shot this photo as we were making our way into a massive New Jersey farm. They had a hay bail climbing area that didn't seem all that safe to me but the kids seemed to love it.

I like this photo because there's a 1950's-style farm land feeling for me. Something about the threatening sky, the dusty need for rain, and the kids that would joyfully stand out there in a lightning storm just so they could keep playing.

I shot this with a Sony NEX-7 using the kit lens with ISO 100 and f/22. What do you think? How would you improve it?

Constructive Criticism Photo of the Day and Happy Birthday to My Wife

It's that time of year again! Time to celebrate my wife's birthday. I thought I'd snap some pictures of her blowing out some candles with my Sony Nex 7. I would really love some criticism of this photo because I know how incredibly hard these types of photos can be. I shot this at ISO 1600 at 18mm and f /3.5. What would you have done?

Last week I spent some time in Central Park with the great photographer Trey Ratcliff. We were shooting a piece on the basics of photography. At one point Trey wandered, as he is good at doing, over to a group of painters who were painting random park settings. We both shot the same scenes. I was about to say that we both shot the same photos but that would be a lie. What do you think? Constructive criticism welcome.

Constructive Criticism Photo of the Day

Last night my wife and I had a rare date night. We went to one of our favorite restaurants in Hawley, PA. The room at the Inn is so warm and inviting so I tried to capture some of that lighting. I shot three photos and later ran them through Photomatix Pro to get this HDR.
